No Spring Break Plans? 3 Tips To Avoid FOMO

So you are staying home for spring break? It seems like everyone else is on the most fun, eventful trip of their life. If you are feeling vacation FOMO, wishing you were clubbing in Cabo or swimming with string rays in Bora Bora, I feel you. Just this past week, I was scrolling on my phone comparing my boring week to the perfect vacation Instagram dumps that were drowning my feed. Instead of spending my break wishing I was somewhere else, I decided to turn my FOMO into JOMO (joy of missing out.) Here are 3 tips for you to do the same.

1. Stay Off Socials

I know it’s so much easier said than done, but I promise that limiting mindless scrolling on socials will help your FOMO. Instead, look at this week of free time as an advantage! You have an entire week free from school to do whatever you want.

If you want to try getting your life together and organizing your space, do it. I’ve been loving the whole cleaning my room while listening to a podcast vibe. I know it might not be as glamorous as a beachfront dinner in Hawaii, but it seriously makes you feel so productive. A clear space = a clear mind, and that’s exactly what we could all use as we’re heading into the second half of the semester.

Another thing to do instead of scrolling is binge-watching your favorite TV show. The options are literally endless these days, but I never have time to sit down and watch because I am so busy during the school week. Especially with this season of The Bachelor existing, how could you ever get bored?

2. Lean Into Self Care

Self-care is one of the most important things to do, yet it’s also one of the easiest to put on the back burner. During the stress of midterms and second-semester chaos, I noticed that self-care became less of a priority for me. Staying home for spring break was the exact reset I needed to get back to feeling like the best version of myself.

There’s nothing I love more than a super fun workout class that makes you forget you’re working out. If you’re looking to get active and try something new, my all-time favorite workout is SoulCycle! I also love hot yoga, weight training, and pilates. If you don’t have a studio nearby, YouTube has some of the best workout videos that will get you feeling so strong!

Being home for spring break is the perfect opportunity to fine-tune your morning routine and adopt new habits that you can take with you throughout the rest of the year! I got back into journaling and going on morning walks while I was home for break, and it made me realize that being intentional with our time is so rewarding. No matter how busy the day might be, always find time to do at least one thing that brings you joy.

I don’t know about you, but I can’t even handle the thought of my dining hall food, it’s that bad. I have missed cooking SO much since I’ve been away at school, so this week was perfect for getting back in the kitchen and trying new recipes. I think cooking is so fun, especially when you

blast your favorite playlist and get into it. There’s something about eating food that YOU made that is so rewarding, which is why it’s one of my favorite ways to practice self-care.

3. Spice Up Your Spring Wardrobe

I feel like I’ve finally reached the point of the year where everything in my closet is boring and repetitive. If you have the urge to do some shopping, Spring is seriously the best season to spice up your wardrobe with some cute colors and pieces perfect for the warmer weather. Whether it be online or in person, a little retail therapy never hurt anybody.

This break I became obsessed with the platform WantLocker, which is basically just Pinterest for shopping! If you are bored and feel the need to buy some cute new clothes, I highly recommend spending some time there to find your favorite picks!

While it can be so easy to compare ourselves to what we see others doing on social media, remember that there isn’t one “right” way to do spring break. In reality, it’s exactly what it sounds like... a break! With a little mindset switch and a plan to make the most of your time, I promise that you can have an amazing spring break that will leave you refreshed and ready for the second half of the semester.

Xoxo,
