We’ve all been there, scrolling endlessly through bad news, random memes, or that one viral TikTok rabbit hole. It feels like you’re doing something, but deep down, you know it’s draining your energy. With motivation running low these days, why not swap doomscrolling for activities that light you up and spark joy? Here’s a curated list of ideas to fuel your creativity and feel motivated:
Learn Something New
Pick up a fresh skill or dive into a topic that fascinates you. It could be learning a new language on Duolingo, mastering Photoshop, or understanding the basics of investing. The point is to engage your brain in a way that feels rewarding.
Watch a Documentary
Swap your endless TikTok marathon for a deep-dive into something inspiring. From social issues to wildlife, documentaries can be a window to another world. Bonus points if it motivates you to take action or fuels your next conversation starter.
Write a Short Story or Poetry
Let your imagination take over and create something original. Whether it’s a quirky fiction piece or heartfelt poetry, writing is an outlet that helps you process emotions and sharpen your creativity.
Paint or Sketch
Grab those watercolors or sketchpads you’ve had lying around. Whether you’re a seasoned artist or just experimenting, creating art is a therapeutic way to spend your time (and no, it doesn’t have to look perfect). Recently I’ve been obsessed with this paint by numbers kit from Amazon, they are so aesthetic and cute, I can’t wait to hang them in my room.
Learn to Cook from Scratch
Cooking can be both practical and meditative. Challenge yourself to make a homemade pizza, fresh bread, or a fancy dessert. Not only will you eat better, but you’ll also build a skill that’ll impress everyone.
Curate Outfits or Design Clothes
If fashion is your thing, try putting together new outfit combinations from your closet or sketching out your dream clothing line. You could even upcycle old pieces into fresh looks.
Meditate and Reset
Set aside 10 minutes to just be. Apps like Headspace or Calm are great guides, or you can simply sit in silence and focus on your breath. Meditation helps you unplug and re-center.
Start Journaling or Write Articles
Capture your thoughts, feelings, and ideas in a journal or turn them into mini-articles. Who knows? It could be the start of a blog or portfolio.
Sell Clothes on Depop or Poshmark
If you’re tired of your wardrobe or want to earn extra cash, curate a collection of clothes to sell. Bonus: it’s sustainable and gives your pieces a second life.
Plan Mini Adventures
Even if it’s just exploring a new café or a nearby park, planning small outings can break your routine and boost your mood.
The key is to pick activities that genuinely excite you. Motivation might feel scarce, but these ideas can help you reclaim your energy and creativity. Life’s too short to let doomscrolling steal your shine!
