A Guide To Being Your Own MUUZ

Recently I have been thinking about how much I have grown since last year. I feel like my friends have changed. My perspective has changed. My future goals have changed. I realized that who I am now is exactly who I strived to be a year ago. Each year, month, and day, I grow into the person I want to be. Essentially, my future self is my MUUZ. Being the best version of yourself is not about being perfect. Everyone has their flaws and quirks. Truthfully, it's about embracing your uniqueness, and constantly striving for improvement. If you are wondering how to become your own MUUZ and grow into exactly who you want to be, let’s dive into some tips.

This sounds cliché, but physical health is so important to your overall well-being. This doesn’t just mean going to the gym for hours a day. I would suggest finding an activity that you love and committing to it a few times per week. Even taking a pilates class with a friend, going for a walk, or doing an at-home workout will improve your mental health. Also, getting the right amount of sleep is so hard to do, but can make such a difference. You don’t want to show up to class or work feeling tired, so set a realistic goal for yourself and make it happen!

You shouldn't compare yourself to others. I am constantly struggling with this myself, but it is so important to grow into your own person. At the end of the day, everyone has their own path, so why compare yourself to your friends, family members, or people you see online? One of my friends recently told me that everything you see online is just highlights, people rarely share the negative parts of their lives, so you shouldn't compare.

Learn from your past mistakes. A part of growing up is making mistakes. Instead of being bummed out that you made a mistake, try to take it as a lesson or an opportunity to grow. If you just failed a test, it may suck in the moment, but learn from it and use it as a lesson to study harder next time. Also, don't be afraid to ask for help whether it be on that test, or in any aspect of life. Find a mentor who has qualities that you hope to gain and talk to them.

Love yourself before anyone else. This may sound hard to hear, but you should get into a relationship with yourself before anyone else. Learning to be a little selfish when it comes to friendships or relationships is hard, but you need to prioritize your own well-being before others. Distance yourself from friends who are draining you or holding you back from achieving your goals. Instead, surround yourself with people who uplift you and support you through good times and bad.

Lastly, accept change, don't run away from it. I know it is a really scary thing and trust me I tried to always keep things the same, but it is unrealistic and won't get you to your goals.

There have been many scenarios where if I had gotten what I thought I wanted, I wouldn’t have had the opportunity to do something else that is better for me. The universe always has a way of giving you what you need, just be patient.
