Whether you just picked up a bouquet at the market or received a surprise arrangement from someone, taking care of your flowers can make them last longer and look beautiful for days. Here are 3 easy things you can do to give your flowers the love they deserve:
1. Keep the Water Fresh
It might not look like it but your flowers are thirsty. Make sure they have clean, fresh water, swap out the old water in the vase every day or two. It seems simple and only takes a minute but it can make a big difference. Stale water can cause bacteria to build up, which shortens the life of your blooms. Clean vase, clean water, happy flowers.
2. Trim the Stems
Every couple of days, give the stems a little trim. Cut the stems a few centimeters at an angle
with clean scissors. This helps the flowers absorb water more easily and keeps them from
drying out. Pro tip: do it under running water or even while they’re submerged, this will help
prevent air bubbles from entering the stems, which can block water absorption and make your flowers wilt faster.
3. Keep Them Cool
Flowers don’t do well in the heat. Try placing your arrangement somewhere out of direct sunlight and away from heaters or warm windows. A cooler spot helps them stay fresh longer and keeps them from wilting too fast. If it feels like a cozy spot to nap it’s probably too warm for your flowers.
