In a world driven by trends, overconsumption, and constant comparison, it’s easy to lose sight of what truly matters. I often catch myself fixated on the next item on my wishlist or what someone else has, celebrities, influencers, even friends, forgetting to pause and appreciate what I already do have. Gratitude, though simple in theory, can be grounding in a culture that always asks for more.Â
Start SmallÂ
Practicing gratitude does not mean posting daily affirmations or journaling for an hour everyday, it can start quietly by just reminding yourself that the small parts of your life are so special. Lately, I have been reminding myself that when having my morning matcha or even when I am walking to class. It is important to take in the beauty and the pleasures of life, no matter how ordinary they are.
Express Gratitude To OthersÂ
Gratitude grows when it is shared with those who you love and appreciate. Taking a moment to thank a friend for listening, sending a text when you think of a person, or even complimenting a stranger can enhance your day. It may sound cheesy, but these moments of kindness can turn your day around along with the people around you. Hold those that you love close to you and never let them forget how much they matter to you!Â
Move Away From ComparisonÂ
Social media has a way of making us feel like what we have is not enough. It’s hard to practice gratitude when you are constantly viewing someone’s life on social media, which is essentially a highlight reel. Don’t be afraid to mute or unfollow social media accounts that don’t serve you. Your feed should be filled with people who spark joy and promote growth, rather than those who are focused on materialistic things. It’s okay to turn off social media when it is no longer enjoyable.Â
Something To RememberÂ
Expressing gratitude isn’t always easy, and that is okay. Gratitude does not require a picture perfect routine with affirmations. It is simply just the way you move through the world. The more you slow down and remember who you are and the good that fills your life, the more you’ll realize that you have enough!
