Spring is personally one of my favorite seasons of the year. Despite this fact, I repeatedly find myself and others sometimes experiencing a sense of spring gloom. Immediately moving past the excitement of warmer weather, it is easy to get overwhelmed by the impending summer season and feeling out of control for what lies ahead. Spring coincides with finals season, the pressure of summer, and of course, the well renowned breakup season. Although these different side effects of spring can be tough, it is important to remember to stay positive and remember that spring is a season of rebirth and new opportunity. Staying positive is easier said than done, but here are a few tips to help positivity become more achievable.

Keep a Journal

Keeping a journal was always recommended to me throughout my time growing up. I always looked at it as a counterproductive activity because I didn’t understand how writing down my thoughts would help me process them. After my first two years of college I have discovered that checking in with myself through keeping a journal is a transformative experience. Rereading past journal entries I’ve written makes me realize how some days I can overthink, and they remind me how much having a positive attitude can change the way that events are interpreted.

Journals also help me realize how much I have to be proud of. Seeing places of growth,

strength, and things you have achieved in your past can be the perfect boost on a bad day.

Although keeping a journal may seem silly it can help you re-prioritize the different things in your life and keep yourself from falling into a mental spiral.

Remember How Much Can Change in a Week

Everyone experiences those days that just feel like everything is going wrong and just feeling like a dark cloud is following you around wherever you go. Despite these feelings, it is important to remind yourself how much can change in a day, week, month, and year. The point of this exercise is to not make you feel like your problems do not matter, but instead make them feel way more manageable and smaller. There have been so many things that I’ve stressed myself out about like an exam, a social event, or feeling unsuccessful in certain aspects of life; If you reframe your mindset to thinking about how much things can change in limited amounts of time these feelings are likely to melt away.

Develop a Self-Care Routine

Spring is such a busy time, there is a push to be outside and prepare for the summer ahead,

and there is so much pressure to jampack every day full of exciting activities. Despite these

feelings, it is more than acceptable to just let yourself have moments to appreciate self-care.

The importance of self-care has been extremely publicized in recent years and taking minutes toyourself, whether it be a spa day, going on a walk, or spending time allowing yourself to relax, can make a huge difference. Positive mindsets can take a lot of effort to achieve, and sometimes the hardest part about doing this is realizing that some things are simply out of your control.
