Throughout my teenage years, I have never had much time to binge-watch TV
shows or be able to follow a television series in depth. Although I never set aside
enough time to do so, I always make time to watch my all-time favorite-
Sex and The City. I never used to understand the attention surrounding it. I would
hear older women RAVE about a wild group of four running around the streets of
New York with a shopping addiction and rotation of men. As a 19-year-old girl, I
finally understand.
I have become so fascinated with every episode of Sex and the City. Every single
one. The reason why I have developed such a heavy fixation on this show is
because nothing about it is sugar-coated- it’s relatable. IT’S GIRLHOOD! I feel
seen, related to, and understood without even knowing the characters personally.
Whether you are more of a Charlotte, Miranda, Carrie, or Samantha, I promise
there is something about this show that will comfort you. As for the star of the
show, Miss Carrie Bradshaw- let's talk about her.
A Carrie Bradshaw Lifestyle
“When I first moved to New York I bought Vogue instead of dinner… I just felt it
fed me more” I seriously live by these words daily.
Carrie loves to sleep in and get breakfast with her girls around noon- because you
can get breakfast anywhere in New York in the afternoon. She typically sits at her
computer, typing up an article while smoking a cigarette to lay off some stress. Her
apartment is perfectly messy, yet no man can disrupt her peace. Her go-to meal is
anything but a home-cooked one in her kitchen because she uses her oven for extra
shoe storage. Her life is go, go, go, yet the best moments experienced with her and
her girls are the most spontaneous ones, and I think that's what inspires me most
about Sex and The City.
Many of her 12 pm breakfast conversations include who she saw last night, and
who she had in bed. Samantha will finally come forward about why she was late to
their routine noon meetup (hint: she was on the complete opposite side of the city
in her waiter's bed from last night). Charlotte will subtly scold her about how she
needs to be more feminine and channel her inner wife. I wouldn’t be surprised if I
saw Miranda grinning from the other side of the table waiting for Samantha to pick
a fight with Charlotte.
Window Shopping
Once a month, Carrie freaks out over her credit card statement to see a long list of
shoe purchases. From then on, all there is left to do is window shop- but in the city
of New York, this is one of the greatest, most exciting parts of your day as a girl!
Walking around the Upper East Side, looking at all of the pieces of clothing,
peering through windows, imagining what it would look like while clubbing
downtown. My very best Carrie Bradshaw advice would be to never diss window
shopping. Get inspired, craft outfit ideas in your head, look at all the manikins, and
envision it to create the most incredible going-out look.
Boys! Ugh!
It wouldn’t be an article about Carrie Bradshaw without mentioning boys.
Unfortunately, most men suck. Fortunately, it’s a girl's world- and Miss Bradshaw
doesn’t let us forget it. Carrie’s long list of men is by no means linear. Mr. Big and
Aiden comes from two completely different worlds, yet both teach a different
lesson. It’s important to recognize what each man in your life teaches you because
you gain a little bit of knowledge from each one. From every failed talking stage,
hookup, or relationship, it came into existence for a specific reason, and that is subject to what YOU needed to be taught from the situation. Mr. Big taught Carrie to detach and learn to live without a man around 24/7, while Aiden taught her to let loose, get messy, and not worry about little things that don’t matter in life. Let everything you do be a lesson- do not let it determine how your day will go, simply grow from what occurred. You live. You learn. You do it over again. Then you never go back to what was. Don’t let history repeat itself- you will end up with exactly who you’re meant to be with.
“Men I may not know, but shoes, shoes I know”
Get inspired by Carrie, Charlotte, Miranda, and Samantha. Let each of them speak
to you differently. Don’t sweat the small stuff. Pack your bags and move to
the city. Get motivated, be inspired, and do whatever you want to do. Do it like
CARRIE!
