If You’re Not Seen on Scene Yet, You’re Missing Out

Meet Scene Social, the app changing the way girls find their next night out in NYC.

It’s Saturday night, the group chat is blowing up, everyone wants to go out, and somehow no one actually knows where to go. You scroll TikTok, send a few videos to the group chat and ask around, only to still wonder whether the place you picked is actually the place to be.

For Scene Social co-founders Jessie and Lindsay, this was the problem they wanted to solve. What started with Jessie looking for a better way to navigate New York has turned

into a social discovery app connecting girls with places, events and, most importantly, each other.

From a Friendship to a Business Idea

After graduating college, Jessie moved to New York and quickly realised that finding somewhere to go was easy — finding your people was harder. Lindsay, who was born and raised on the Upper East Side, knew the city inside out, so Jessie naturally became the friend constantly asking her for recommendations: Where should we go? What’s actually good? Where is everyone going?

The more they talked about it, the more they realised how much going out still relies on knowing the right person. They wanted somewhere that could give you the same trusted recommendations, while also helping you build a community.

That became Scene Social.

Beyond the Algorithm

Scene combines social discovery with NYC’s hospitality scene. Based on your location, the app shows you the 50 closest places, which you can filter and explore based on what you’re actually looking for. You can create a profile, follow people whose taste you like, save places and build your own lists of recommendations.

But what really sets Scene apart is the social layer behind the discovery. Jessie and Lindsay’s own experience at Ohio State played a huge role in shaping this. College gives you an instant sense of community — you know where your friends are, where everyone is going and, somehow, you always have people to make plans with. Once you graduate, that can disappear overnight.

That feeling became a big part of what they wanted to recreate with Scene. During onboarding, users personalize their profile around who they actually are — from their age and where they grew up to where they went to college and what they’re interested in. You can then filter by college, making it possible to discover people who went to the same school, connect with alumni or simply find others with similar interests and experiences.

It’s another way to find your community, while also discovering where to go. Whether you’re new to NYC, recently graduated and missing that built-in college network, or simply looking to meet people who share your interests, Scene is designed to help you find your people as well as your next plan.

The more you use Scene, the more you can build a reputation as someone with good taste. You can share your own recommendations, work your way up as a trusted recommender and eventually even earn perks from some of your favourite spots. So it’s not just about finding somewhere to go — you can curate your own scene, find your community and have your recommendations come back around to you.

Because TikTok Doesn’t Know Your Scene

TikTok is where most girls go when they want to know what’s worth doing, and Scene’s founders know that first-hand. 

But there’s a difference between knowing what’s trending and knowing what’s right for you.

TikTok’s algorithm might tell you the hottest restaurant in NYC, but it doesn't necessarily know your taste, your friendship group or where your people are actually going. Scene is built around recommendations from real people, not just an algorithm.

You can follow people whose taste you trust, see where they’re going and create your own lists. You can even filter by college to connect with alumni and other students, particularly around events like game days.

For anyone new to New York, that social layer makes finding your way into the city’s scene a whole lot easier.

Finding Your Own Scene

For Lindsay, being a “scene girl” isn’t about having the perfect outfit, the perfect plans or the perfect night. It’s about actually getting out there and enjoying yourself. With so much of our social lives happening online, we’ve lost some of the spontaneity that comes from simply being around people.

Because going out is supposed to be fun. It’s the last-minute plans, meeting someone new, staying out later than you planned and having a full Sunday debrief about everything that happened. That’s the community Lindsay feels we’ve been missing, and that’s what Scene is trying to bring back.

Whether you’re looking for a packed Saturday night, a new restaurant, a college event or just people to explore the city with, Scene is about finding what feels right for you.

There’s no perfect scene. There’s just your scene.

From NYC Nightlife to the Hospitality Industry

The idea became even bigger for Lindsay during a trip to Florida to visit her grandmother. While speaking to the manager of a local hospitality venue, she realised there was another gap: there wasn’t a real bridge between venues promoting their events and the people looking for somewhere to go.

Scene connects the two.

For users, it’s a more natural way to discover events. For venues, it’s a way to reach people who are actively looking for somewhere to go. The founders are now looking to build this side of Scene even further through events.

The Launch

Scene Social’s launch was a roaring success, bringing the app’s idea of community to life for the very first time. More than 500 people came together for a four-hour sunset rooftop party, complete with signature cocktails, a DJ and plenty of mingling.

It felt less like a traditional app launch and more like the beginning of something bigger: the real-life community Jessie and Lindsay had set out to create. For them, seeing hundreds of people come together, meet new people and simply have a great night was the perfect start to Scene Social and a pretty clear sign that they had tapped into something people had been missing.

So, What Exactly Is a Scene Girl?

The answer is: whoever you want her to be.

She might be the girl who knows every new restaurant in the city. She might be new to NYC and looking for her people. She might want the best rooftop for Saturday night, or she might have spent the last three weekends choosing Pilates over the group chat.

There’s no right way to be a “scene girl.”

Your scene is whatever you make it.

What’s Next for Scene?

With a growing user base, 43K+ TikTok followers and plans for more events, Scene is already proving there’s an appetite for something beyond generic nightlife recommendations.

But Jessie and Lindsay don’t want it to become just another social platform or another TikTok account telling you where to go. They want it to become the place you open when you need to know what’s happening — whether you’ve just moved to NYC or simply have no idea what the plan is this Saturday.

Because TikTok can tell you what’s trending. Scene wants to help you figure out what’s your scene.

And in a city with endless places to go, maybe the hardest part isn’t finding somewhere.

It’s finding somewhere that feels like yours.
