Honor Warren, a storyteller, passionate filmmaker, and role model, gave Muuz the inside scoop on her new film, sharing the inspiration behind it and how she hopes her journey encourages other young women to pursue careers in filmmaking.
When asked what her upcoming film, “Unsaid,” is about, what inspired her to write and direct it, and why now was the right time to tell the story, Warren said the film was inspired by both her personal experiences and the emotions she was navigating when she wrote it.
“My short film, ‘Unsaid,’ is about two exes who accidentally run into each other for the first time in five years. While they walk and catch up, the film flashes back to their relationship in high school (the first time they meet, first kiss, breakup, etc.). It’s melancholy but ultimately rewarding in the closure it brings,” Warren explained.
Warren said the film’s inspiration was rooted in both her own life and the books, films, and music that have shaped her perspective.
“Now was the right time to tell this story because, honestly, I was feeling the emotions from my breakup so strongly when I wrote it, which made it more authentic and vulnerable”, Warren said.
Warren explained that the most rewarding part of bringing the ‘Unsaid’ script to life is seeing how it impacts those who watch the film and how it makes them feel.
“That is all I really want to do, is portray the emotions we can sometimes be afraid to feel,” Warren said.

Warren explained that heartbreak is a universal experience and that, when portrayed authentically, it can be healing for those going through it. She made clear that healing from a breakup is not a linear process, but seeing those emotions reflected on screen can help people feel understood and less alone.
“I want to provide hope that people can grow and change and move on, while also showing the raw vulnerability and excitement of a first love,” Warren said.
Warren’s role model (MUUZ) regarding her filmmaking passion stems from her parents.
“They both have done nothing but encourage me to express myself creatively through writing, film, and art,” Warren answered.
Warren added that her mom, actress Jessica Alba, has been an inspiration and an immense source of support throughout her filmmaking journey and process.
“My mom has been such a big support in teaching me how to create a comfortable and inspiring environment for the actors,” she explained.

When giving advice to young women who aspire to write and direct films, Warren encouraged them to chase their dreams with confidence and not let obstacles stand in the way of achieving their goals.
“I would say, go for it. Honestly, if you have a vision and you’re passionate about something don’t let anything stop you because passion is a work ethic that people strive to have. Start small, I only make shorts right now and I want to perfect my craft in those before tackling any sort of feature film,” she said.
Warren plans to continue writing and directing in the future.
“It’s all I’ve really seen myself doing for the past like 5-6 years. When I envision my future, it’s all screenwriting, directing, writing books,” she said.
Warren explained that her ultimate goal as a filmmaker is to adapt some of her favorite books into films, as she loves storytelling and reading and wants to blend the two.
“As someone who loves to read (I just got a Kindle and it’s been my new obsession), seeing those stories come to life is so incredibly cool,” she added.
Warren is more than just a young filmmaker, writer, and director. She is an inspiration to aspiring female storytellers, proving that chasing your dreams is more than just an idea; it can become your reality. One thing is certain: Honor Warren is only just getting started, and we are so excited to see her storytelling continue to come to life.
