As the leaves begin to fall and the football fanatics scream passionately at their TV screens, I think it’s safe to say we are finally beginning to beat the summer heat. I don’t know about you, but the transition from summer to fall is my favorite time of the year. Nothing I love more than a sweater, a hot coffee, and watching my favorite Halloween movies on repeat. However, a more important routine adjustment arrives with the cold breeze: the annual wardrobe change. From bikinis to sweat sets, every part of my apparel is set to turn with the temperature.
I have never been one to have a set style in my closet. Normally I throw on whatever I have during the week and irresponsibly scowar online shops every time I have an important event to go to. This fall, however, I plan to step out more than ever. Although I have found it extremely helpful to find the latest hots in the fashion industry through social media, I have been claimed victim to one too many micro-trends. If you’re not familiar with a micro-trend... do you remember when everyone was putting pink bows all over their clothes? And then they disappeared after a couple of months? Or in 2014 when we were putting mustaches on everything we owned? Unfortunately, our media is saturated with thousands of opinions that influence what we buy; this goes beyond clothing too.
Although I claim to be a victim of TikTok micro-trends, there are clear staples one will need to prepare in cold-- and look hot while doing it. Here are a few of the basics you can opt for this fall season:
Dark Warm Tones (Red, Burnt Orange, Brown)
It’s no secret that we love the color red here at MUUZ, but it’s for good reason. I don’t know if everyone is just super excited to bring out the Christmas spirit this year, but a deep red not only compliments a wide range of hair colors and skin tones, but it’s a gorgeous pop of color if you like to normally keep it monochrome in the cooler months.
Statement Accessories
Not only can fall outfits become mundane, but it can also be tricky to make them pop without the proper embellishments. If I have learned anything as a fashion consumer this year, it’s to start basic with your clothing pieces and go
ludicrous with your accessories. A statement piece can transform your fit from hangover to high fashion, and you can wear them every other month too;)
The Jacket
The tough part of living through a colder season is the devastating fact that your comfort might exceed your aesthetic desire. However, there is a way to have the best of both worlds when you’re preparing your “transitional wardrobe”: If you can obtain a top layer that can be dressed up and down, you’ll be able to enjoy the look of comfort and couture. Life is filled with bartering, but you don’t have to barter with your boudoir.
Tights
I hate having to give up my skirts when the breeze rolls in, especially because of how much I love layering sweaters with a short bottom. Having a hardy pair of tights in your closet leads to a year-round skirt rotation. If you live in a particularly freezing city, thermal tights will do just the trick! Talk about rock out with your socks out!
