If you’re anything like me, you’re a senior…about to graduate college…and you have no clue what the rest of your life is going to look like. If that sounds anything like you, read on for advice to beat the graduation scaries.
Quit Comparing
Do not (and I repeat: do not) compare yourself and where you are in life to other people. We all have our own paths. Here’s a secret I’ve learned: most people around our age have no clue what they’re going to do next. You’ll figure it out, don’t worry. Everything always happens the way it is meant to.
Be Active
Start applying for jobs, even ones you’re not fully qualified for. Half of life is just being a good salesman for yourself, anyway. But seriously, the best way to beat the graduation scaries is by having something out there. Trust me, you’ll feel a lot better.
Also, get outside! Find new hobbies or give light to old ones. Projects and being active will take your mind off of your fears and nerves.
Don’t Focus on the Mountain, Focus on the Meadow
I know when we finish one thing and move to whatever the “next” is, we tend to get scared. Looking up that mountain of all that work, stress, and all the what if or how will I do this questions. Don’t look at all the steps up the road. Just focus on what is right in front of you. Stay in the present and keep this mindset with you always.
The phases of your life are influenced mainly by your mindset. Have a good mindset about it and it will help get you through any trials or tribulations you may face. Check out this article about forming a positive mindset for spring, as you spring into the next phase of your life.
Enjoy It
Enjoy the graduation season! I know this sounds so silly, but so often we forget to enjoy these milestones in our lives. You are finally done with college! Be proud of yourself! Dance around and celebrate, don’t let it pass you by. Here’s some more tips from a 2024 graduate’s advice piece.
Treat Yourself
If you’re like me, you take any opportunity to treat yourself. This is no different. Sometimes the best way to take your mind off of something is to buy something (don’t ask me for financial advice because you won’t get any here LOL). Treat yourself to a self care basket, or a blanket hoodie to wear while on your weekend resets.
Get yourself something sweet—you deserve it. Congratulations on graduating college, and I hope I have made you feel less of the graduation scaries.
